The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has taken another step towards making digital services easier for its members by introducing an official WhatsApp channel. The channel will help subscribers receive important information and updates related to EPFO directly on WhatsApp. The organisation is also working on a WhatsApp-based AI chatbot that is planned to provide personalised services such as PF balance and claim status.
Under the proposed system, members will be able to start the service by sending “Hello” to an EPFO-verified WhatsApp number. After verifying the registered mobile number, users are expected to get a menu of services, including PF balance, the last five transactions, claim status, KYC details, interest credit information, UAN-related queries and general complaints. The chatbot is also being planned to support regional languages.
However, members should not assume that all personal PF account services are already available through the WhatsApp channel. EPFO has previously operated WhatsApp helplines through regional offices, while the proposed AI chatbot for personalised account services is a separate initiative. Members should be cautious of fake WhatsApp messages and calls claiming to be from EPFO. The organisation warns users never to share their UAN password, Aadhaar, PAN, bank details or OTP, or make payments in response to suspicious messages.
