Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra Get a Major Upgrade

Samsung Electronics and Samsung Display have reportedly agreed to use the company’s latest M16 OLED material set for the displays of the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra. If the report is accurate, these would be the first Samsung smartphones to feature the flagship M16 OLED technology, which is expected to offer improvements in brightness, power efficiency, color performance and display longevity. However, the upcoming iQOO 16 is expected to become the first Android smartphone with an M16 OLED panel, following confirmation from Samsung Display and iQOO at a display technology event in China.

According to industry sources cited by ET News, Samsung is expected to reserve the M16 OLED for the Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra, while the standard Galaxy S27 and S27 Plus may continue with the M14 OLED. This would mark a significant shift from Samsung’s previous strategy of using M13 OLED panels across several Galaxy S generations. The move could further differentiate the premium models from the rest of the lineup. Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 9 foldable phones are also reportedly expected to receive upgraded display panels beyond the M13 technology used in recent models.
