Airbnb has announced plans to develop a dedicated AI-powered travel agent that will help users plan and book their trips. The company revealed the development in its Q3 2026 shareholder letter and is targeting the first half of 2027 for its rollout. Drawing on nearly 20 years of experience in the travel industry, Airbnb aims to provide users with a personalised travel search and booking experience. The company believes its existing ecosystem, which includes reservations, payments and customer support, will give its AI agent an advantage in assisting travellers throughout their journeys.
The upcoming AI travel agent will feature a specially designed interface powered by hundreds of travel-specific elements, including maps, photographs, comparisons, calendars and itineraries. It will combine these features in real time based on individual user requirements, helping travellers explore options and make decisions without leaving the Airbnb app. The company has already introduced several AI-powered features, including AI Search, AI Filters, AI Listing Descriptions and AI Companion, along with an AI agent for customer support. Airbnb is expected to share more details about its new travel assistant in the coming months.
