As part of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, UP Warriorz (UPW) continue their impressive run with back-to-back victories over Mumbai Indians (MI). In the 10th match of the season held on January 17, UP Warriorz defeated the defending champions by 22 runs, marking their second consecutive win against Mumbai this season.
Powerful Half-Centuries by Meg Lanning and Phoebe Litchfield: Winning the toss, UP Warriorz opted to bat first and posted a formidable 187/8 in 20 overs. Captain Meg Lanning led from the front with a classy 70 off 45 balls, laying a strong foundation for her team and becoming the player with the most half-centuries in WPL history. Phoebe Litchfield added 61 off 37 balls, punishing the Mumbai bowlers with several boundaries. Together, Lanning and Litchfield put on a 119-run partnership for the second wicket, anchoring the innings.
Amelia Kerr Shines with Ball in Hand: Mumbai’s bowling had a bright spot in Amelia Kerr, who took 3 crucial wickets for 28 runs in the final over. Kerr also became the first player in WPL history to achieve 50 wickets, highlighting her all-round impact.
Mumbai Indians Fall Short Despite Efforts: Chasing a challenging target of 188, Mumbai managed 165/6 in 20 overs. Apart from Amanjot Kaur’s 41, the rest of the top order struggled, with Nat Sciver-Brunt (15) and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (18) failing to make significant contributions. Amelia Kerr (49 not out) tried to revive the innings, but by then the match had already tilted in favor of UP. Among the UP bowlers, Shikha Pandey picked up 2 wickets, maintaining pressure on the Mumbai batters.
