Confined to a wheelchair, Suvarna Raj has refused to let physical challenges limit her ambitions. The para-athlete, lawyer and social worker has become an inspiration through her achievements in sports and her commitment to supporting people with disabilities. Unable to use the lower half of her body, she developed a deep understanding of the challenges faced by persons with disabilities and dedicated herself to advocating for their rights. She travelled extensively across India to raise awareness about digital resources and help people with disabilities and special needs access technology. Suvarna also served as a brand ambassador for the Election Commission of India, promoting electoral awareness among persons with disabilities. Alongside her social work, she developed her skills in discus throw and shot put, benefiting from government support and improved training opportunities.
Suvarna’s sporting journey has brought her several notable achievements. Earlier this year, she won a bronze medal at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix. At a competition in Canberra, Australia, she claimed gold in discus throw and silver in shot put. Despite having limited expectations placed on her ahead of the Para Asian Games, Suvarna delivered a remarkable performance and returned with a gold medal. Her achievement reflects years of determination, disciplined training and perseverance, making her journey an inspiring example of sporting excellence and social commitment.
