Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a fresh attack on the Congress at the NDTV World Summit in New Delhi, criticising the party’s leadership and its position in Indian politics. Referring to the Gandhi family, Modi said the family had become a burden on the Congress. He also described the party as a “parasite,” alleging that it was overshadowing other opposition voices instead of allowing them to develop independently. Modi further accused the Congress of questioning India’s achievements to protect its leadership from political setbacks.
Beyond domestic politics, the Prime Minister called for reforms in global institutions, including the United Nations, arguing that they must adapt to emerging challenges. He emphasised the need to give developing countries greater representation and strengthen international cooperation during crises. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera responded on X, telling Modi to focus on his own shortcomings rather than worrying about the Congress. The exchange reflects the continuing political confrontation between the BJP and Congress over leadership, governance and the opposition’s role in holding the government accountable.
