An investigative report published by Vanity Fair has sparked international debate by alleging that a phone linked to Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and former senior adviser, was hacked, potentially exposing confidential financial and diplomatic dealings involving Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to the report, Dutch intelligence officials discovered screenshots associated with Kushner’s iPhone in 2017 while accessing a server linked to Russian military intelligence. The Dutch Military Intelligence and Security Service (MIVD) reportedly examined information obtained from a Russian hacker and identified details suggesting that Kushner had authority over a UAE bank account. The report further alleged that hundreds of millions of dollars flowed into the account through a bank in Azerbaijan.
The report also claimed that discussions took place in 2018 about establishing a special fund to support objectives related to US foreign policy, with individuals connected to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the UAE leadership reportedly involved in the proposal. Although the discussions allegedly concerned raising more than $10 billion, the proposal was eventually shelved, according to the publication. It further alleged that more than $2 billion was subsequently deposited into two accounts associated with Kushner. Kushner’s lawyer strongly rejected the allegations, describing the report as a work of fiction unsupported by evidence. The lawyer maintained that the alleged arrangements with foreign leaders were not undertaken without the US President’s approval and warned that legal action would be pursued against those responsible for publishing the report.
