Indian badminton star P. V. Sindhu has bounced back strongly at the French Open after an early exit from the Denmark Open, advancing to the quarterfinals with a convincing straight-games victory. In Thursday’s second-round match, Sindhu defeated Japan’s Riko Gunji 21-12, 21-16 in just 44 minutes. Fellow Indian Ashmita Chaliha also produced an impressive performance, upsetting third seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan 21-19, 21-18 in the women’s singles event. However, Tanvi Sharma could not overcome world No. 1 An Se-young of South Korea, losing 11-21, 14-21.
India’s Ayush suffered a setback in the men’s singles second round after sustaining an injury while trailing Japan’s Kodai Naraoka 17-21, 6-21. Unable to continue, Ayush retired from the match, allowing Naraoka to progress to the next round. Sindhu’s quarterfinal qualification and Chaliha’s upset victory provided positive results for India, despite the exits of Tanvi Sharma and Ayush.
