India began its New Zealand tour on a high note with a commanding victory in the opening T20I. However, the team has suffered a setback ahead of the second match, with wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan set to miss the game due to a groin injury. Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak confirmed that Kishan has been experiencing groin pain and will not be available for the second T20I. He explained that Tilak Varma was promoted up the batting order in the opening match because of Kishan’s discomfort. Young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is now in contention for a place in the playing XI, while the BCCI medical team continues to monitor Kishan’s condition.
If Sooryavanshi makes the playing XI, India’s batting order could become an interesting talking point. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma are possible opening options, while Sooryavanshi also has the ability to start an innings at the top. Kishan usually bats at No. 3, leaving the team management with a decision to make regarding the batting positions. Samson has previously played at No. 3, giving the team another option to consider. The final combination will determine how India reshuffles its batting line-up for the second T20I.
