The ICC has introduced a new competition format for the 2028 T20 World Cup. The tournament will feature 20 teams divided into five groups of four during the group stage. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 10 stage. In the Super 10, two groups of five teams will compete in a round-robin format, with the winners of each group advancing directly to the semi-finals.
A new Eliminator Round has also been introduced to determine the remaining two semi-finalists. The second-placed teams from each Super 10 group will face the third-placed teams from the opposite group. The winners will complete the semi-final lineup, while the semi-finals and final will continue under the existing format. Based on ICC rankings, 12 teams, including India, have qualified directly, while the remaining eight spots will be decided through a 16-team Global Qualifier.
