Even in the twilight of his career, Lionel Messi continues to redefine football greatness. Playing for Inter Miami in the Major League Soccer (MLS), the Argentine legend delivered a stunning performance in the MLS Cup playoffs, scoring twice and providing two assists as Miami crushed Nashville SC 4-0 in their decisive Game 3 of the Eastern Conference first-round series.
With those two assists, Messi achieved another extraordinary milestone — becoming the first player of his generation to record 400 career assists across club and country. The feat places him just four assists shy of the all-time record held by Hungarian great Ferenc Puskás, further cementing his legacy as one of football’s most complete players.
Across his illustrious career, Messi has now played 1,133 matches, scoring 894 goals and assisting 400 times. His long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, stands ninth on the list with 304 career assists. Even as Messi continues his journey in the MLS, his hunger and brilliance show no signs of slowing down — keeping him within touching distance of yet another historic record.
