In the other semi-final, American Ben Shelton defeated compatriot and 11th seed Frances Tiafoe 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 to reach the title clash. The final will be played on Sunday, with both players aiming to claim a major title. Shelton’s qualification has also ended a long wait for American fans, as an American now has a chance to win the US Open men’s singles championship for the first time since Andy Roddick lifted the trophy in 2003.
