Eighteen-year-old wushu athlete Divyanshi has spoken about her distress after being removed from India’s Asian Games squad at the last moment. Divyanshi was initially selected in the 60kg sanda category after defeating 2022 silver medallist Roshibina Devi in the selection trials. She had also reportedly received the Indian jersey and kit for the tournament and attended the farewell event in Delhi.
The Wushu Federation said Divyanshi was dropped after medical examinations indicated an injury and because she had not undergone adequate training. However, her coach reportedly maintained that the injury was not serious enough to keep her out of the Games. Divyanshi has also alleged that Roshibina deliberately injured her during training, a claim that remains an allegation. In an emotional social media video, Divyanshi spoke about the impact of being removed from the squad and expressed thoughts indicating severe emotional distress. Her comments have raised concerns, highlighting the need for appropriate support and attention to her well-being alongside the ongoing selection dispute.
