India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has responded to recent criticism with an impressive unbeaten century against New Zealand A in the second unofficial Test. The left-handed batter smashed 155 runs off 162 deliveries, including 15 fours and five sixes, sending a strong message ahead of the upcoming Test series against New Zealand. India A had a shaky start on the fourth day after losing Sai Sudharsan for 11 and Devdutt Padikkal soon after, slipping to 36/2. Jaiswal then joined Yash Rathod at the crease and built a remarkable 247-run partnership to put the team back on track. Rathod also remained unbeaten on 100 as India A reached 282/2 in their second innings.
The match was eventually declared a draw after poor light and unfavourable weather conditions forced an early end to play following the tea break. New Zealand A had scored 424 in their first innings, while India A were bowled out for 346. With the T20I series between India and New Zealand concluded, the five-match ODI series is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, followed by a two-match Test series. Jaiswal has not been included in India’s limited-overs squads but is expected to open the innings alongside captain Shubman Gill in the Test series. His timely return to form will be encouraging for the Indian team ahead of the red-ball contest.
