Vidarbha’s young spinner Harsh Dubey delivered a sensational performance against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy, claiming nine wickets for just 53 runs (9/53). With this remarkable spell, he created a new record for the best bowling figures by a Vidarbha bowler. He broke the previous record held by Arun Ogiral, who had registered the best figures for the team in 1967. Dubey’s achievement ended a 59-year-old record. Speaking to the media after the match, the young spinner said he had never imagined taking nine wickets in a single day. He also acknowledged that the pitch conditions played a role in making the achievement possible.
Dubey explained that he used variations in pace and strategic bowling to trouble the Madhya Pradesh batters, particularly while dismissing captain Rajat Patidar. He also described the wicket of Shubham Sharma, whom he had known since childhood, as especially memorable. The spinner said his experience of making his international ODI debut for India in a recent match against Afghanistan, along with his time as a net bowler during the IPL and India’s tour of Sri Lanka, had boosted his confidence. When asked about the possibility of earning a place in India’s squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Dubey said he did not want to create unnecessary pressure by thinking too far ahead. Instead, he would focus on practice and hard work, adding that he would get the opportunity if it was meant to be. His record-breaking performance has brought the young spinner into the spotlight in Indian cricket.
