India clinched the five-match T20I series against New Zealand 3-2, with young batter Naman Dhir emerging as one of the standout performers. Dhir scored 138 runs in five innings, maintaining an impressive average of 46 and a strike rate of 200. He finished as India’s second-highest run-scorer in the series, behind Abhishek Sharma, who scored 197 runs. Recognising his contribution, the Indian team presented him with the ‘Impact Player of the Series’ medal. A video released by the BCCI showed the medal ceremony in the dressing room. Strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux presented the award, while Dhir’s teammates celebrated the moment and playfully encouraged him to say a few words. Dhir thanked his teammates and said he was happy to make an impact on his first overseas tour while being part of a series-winning team.
Primarily a middle-order batter, Dhir batted at No. 6, 7 and 8 during the series, making the most of his limited opportunities with aggressive stroke play. He also has the ability to bowl off-spin, although he bowled only two overs during the series. His batting performances and additional bowling skills have sparked discussions about whether he could develop into an all-round option for India in the future, potentially offering an alternative to Ravindra Jadeja. However, establishing himself at that level would require consistent contributions with the ball as well as the bat. Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan also identified Dhir and Nitish Kumar Reddy as two of the major positives for India from the New Zealand series.
