November 2 holds a special place in the history of Indian women’s cricket. On this day last year, Harmanpreet Kaur-led Team India ended the long wait for a maiden Women’s ODI World Cup title by defeating South Africa in the final at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Marking the first anniversary of the historic triumph, the BCCI released a special video, taking fans back to the memorable moments of India’s title-winning campaign.
Batting first in the final, India posted 298 for seven in their allotted 50 overs. Shafali Verma top-scored with 87 runs, while Deepti Sharma contributed 58 and Smriti Mandhana made 45. In reply, South Africa put up a fight through captain Laura Wolvaardt, who scored 101, but the team was bowled out for 246 in 45.3 overs. Deepti Sharma led the Indian bowling attack with five wickets, helping India secure a 52-run victory and their maiden Women’s ODI World Cup crown.
