Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has reportedly been exploring the possibility of playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for some time. However, his Pakistani nationality has so far prevented him from participating in the tournament. Now, reports suggest that Amir is considering registering for the IPL 2027 auction. The auction is expected to take place in the second or third week of December, while the ten franchises are required to announce their retained players by November 15. Whether Amir will be able to enter the auction and become eligible to play remains uncertain.
Amir's name is also included in the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) draft scheduled for Tuesday. Notably, he has reportedly registered as a UK citizen rather than a Pakistani player. Amir married UK-based lawyer Narjis Khan and completed the necessary legal formalities and citizenship test before receiving his British passport in May this year. He has since registered as a local player in English cricket rather than as an overseas recruit. Reports suggest that if he is selected in the APL, he may make further efforts to enter the IPL as a British citizen. However, the BCCI's rules and approval will be crucial, and it remains to be seen whether the board will permit his participation.
