TDP MLA Galla Madhavi has strongly criticised YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of attempting to protect Hemanth, the accused in the attack on a student named Gopika in Raptaadu, Anantapur district. Speaking at a press conference held at the TDP central office in Mangalagiri on Monday, Madhavi alleged that Jagan had used his followers to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court to defend the accused. She claimed that the petition was filed by Salman Raju, who served as the APSRTC standing counsel during the previous YSRCP government, and Gunda Gopikrishna, a YSRCP supporter from Mangalagiri.
Madhavi alleged that Jagan was expressing sympathy for the injured student in public while simultaneously attempting to protect the person accused of attacking her. She also criticised the arguments reportedly made in court that the police had unnecessarily opened fire on the accused and dragged him like a dog. Questioning Jagan’s demand for Rs. 50 lakh in compensation for the victim’s family, she asked why he had not provided even a single rupee from his own side. Madhavi further alleged that Jagan’s actions reflected his attitude towards women and said that women across Andhra Pradesh would never forgive him.
