With airline ticket prices witnessing a steep rise, CPI leader K. Narayana has criticised the reported Supreme Court remark suggesting that people should avoid air travel as a solution to high fares. He said such a suggestion would not address the actual problem faced by passengers. Narayana argued that airlines should not be allowed to take advantage of festival seasons, emergencies and passengers’ travel requirements to charge exorbitant fares. He urged the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene immediately and regulate airfares.
Narayana also called for greater transparency in the way airlines determine ticket prices and demanded stronger protection for ordinary passengers. He said air travel should not become a luxury accessible only to wealthy people and stressed the need for affordable fares. Calling for strict government regulation, the CPI leader demanded immediate steps to prevent airlines from allegedly exploiting passengers through excessive ticket prices.
