Doctors at Anantapur Government General Hospital have amputated the right leg of Hemant, the accused in the Raptadu attack case in Anantapur district. Hospital Superintendent Mallishwari confirmed that the leg was removed up to the knee following surgery conducted after midnight on Monday. She said the blood vessels in his left leg were also damaged, prompting doctors to perform another surgical procedure to address the injuries. Hemant was shifted from the operation theatre to the Acute Medical Care (AMC) unit, where he is continuing to receive treatment. His health condition is currently stable, according to the hospital superintendent.
The development comes after police opened fire on Hemant while attempting to apprehend him in the Atmakur forest. He was accused of attacking Class 10 student Gopika with a saw. According to the police, Hemant allegedly attempted to attack Circle Inspector Venkatesh during the operation. Police initially fired warning shots into the air before shooting at his legs when he continued to resist. He sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Anantapur Government Hospital. Doctors reportedly decided to amputate his right leg after blood circulation to the limb was disrupted, resulting in severe tissue damage.
