India opened its medal account at the Youth Olympics on the second day of competition, winning two medals in judo and swimming. Fifteen-year-old judoka Khushboo Rajakbhai clinched the silver medal in the women’s 63kg category after losing to Germany’s Jolina Reinhold, a cadet world champion, in the final. The bout ended in just 48 seconds. Khushboo, who had impressed with her performances in the earlier rounds, could not overcome her German opponent in the title clash. This is India’s second judo medal at the Youth Olympics, following Tababi Devi’s silver medal at the 2018 edition.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old swimmer Dhinidhi Desingu from Bengaluru won bronze in the women’s 100m freestyle event. She clocked 56.27 seconds to finish third. Croatia’s Ana Bobanovic secured gold with a time of 55.89 seconds, while New Zealand’s Alisa claimed silver in 56.13 seconds. Dhinidhi’s achievement is particularly significant as she became the first Indian female swimmer to win a medal in swimming at the Youth Olympics. Her podium finish added another highlight to India’s campaign at the international sporting event.
