After a brief injury layoff, Rohit Sharma is set to return to international cricket in the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan. The 39-year-old last represented India in January this year before a hamstring injury during IPL 2026 forced him to the sidelines. Having received fitness clearance from the BCCI Centre of Excellence, the Indian skipper is now ready to lead the batting unit once again. As he makes his comeback, Rohit has his sights set on two significant milestones that could further cement his legacy in ODI cricket.
The veteran opener currently has 11,577 runs in 282 ODIs and needs 423 more runs to become only the sixth batter in ODI history to reach the prestigious 12,000-run mark. He is also just 11 boundaries away from completing 1,100 fours in the format. During India's training session in Mohali, Rohit initially looked rusty but gradually regained his rhythm. He impressed with powerful stroke play, particularly against the spinners, smashing multiple sixes and showcasing signs of peak form. With the series set to be played on batting-friendly surfaces, fans will be eager to see whether the Hitman can achieve both milestones against Afghanistan.
