Team India former captain Rohit Sharma’s future in the ODI format has been a subject of considerable discussion in recent months, particularly with questions over whether he will continue until the 2027 ODI World Cup. Reports had suggested uncertainty over his place in the long-term plans of the coach and selectors. However, the BCCI recently backed Rohit, stating that he remains in good form and dismissing speculation about his immediate ODI future. Rohit is now preparing for India’s upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies.
The biggest question, however, remains whether Rohit will feature in the 2027 ODI World Cup. Asked about his plans at an event in Mumbai, Rohit did not give a definitive answer. “October 2027 is far away, we will see about it then,” he said. The 2027 ODI World Cup is scheduled to be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. With several ODIs still remaining before the tournament, Rohit’s form, fitness and performances over the coming months are likely to remain key factors in determining his future.
