Police in Jammu and Kashmir have reportedly uncovered a suspected cross-border drug smuggling network after detaining an intoxicated youth found near a canal in Kotli Mirdian village on October 20. The man, identified as Sunny, was initially taken into custody in what appeared to be a routine incident. Medical examination reportedly confirmed that he had consumed drugs. After regaining consciousness, he allegedly told investigators that narcotics were being brought from Pakistan using drones and supplied through individuals operating near the border, including in the village of Talhar. Acting on the information, police searched a field in Talhar and recovered approximately two kilograms of suspected narcotics.
Investigators suspect that a wider network may be involved in the smuggling operation and are searching for other people connected to the case. Police have also said that narcotics trafficking may be used by some groups to finance terrorist activities. The investigation is continuing to establish the origin of the seized substances, identify those involved and determine whether the suspected cross-border supply route is linked to organised criminal or terror-financing networks. The allegations and the exact value of the seized drugs have not been independently confirmed here.
