Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has received relief in a defamation case related to remarks he allegedly made about BJP leader Amit Shah. A special court for cases involving elected representatives in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, acquitted Rahul Gandhi in the case dating back to 2018. BJP leader Vijay Mishra filed the complaint against Gandhi on August 4, 2018, over remarks made during the Karnataka Assembly election campaign. The complaint subsequently led to the defamation proceedings against the Congress leader.
Arguments in the case began on October 6, 2026, and concluded on October 12. The court delivered its verdict after hearing both sides. Rahul Gandhi appeared in person before the court on the day of the judgment. With the court acquitting him, the Congress leader has secured relief in the long-running defamation case.
