The Congress has responded to criticism from the BRS over the utilisation of Godavari water in Telangana. Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy said the water level required to lift water through the Kaleshwaram project was currently unavailable. He explained that a water level of 93.5 metres was necessary for pumping, while the current level stood at 89 metres. He added that similar conditions prevailed at the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages. The MP also alleged that the previous BRS government had agreed to limit Telangana’s share of Krishna water to 299 TMC.
Reddy criticised BRS leaders for questioning the government’s handling of Godavari water, alleging that they were spreading misleading claims despite having been in power for a decade. He said the state was utilising Godavari water through the Devadula and Sitarama lift irrigation schemes. He also accused KTR and Harish Rao of focusing on political criticism rather than facts. The MP said the government was prepared to address conditions that could arise due to the impact of El Niño. He urged all parties to attend the all-party meeting scheduled for October 28 under Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and offer constructive suggestions.
