A previous public statement by Y. S. Vijayamma, wife of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has resurfaced amid the dispute over the Yelahanka property in Bengaluru. In a clarification released on March 20, Vijayamma reportedly stated that the property belonged to her daughter, Y. S. Sharmila, along with the assets mentioned in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by her son, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, in Sharmila’s favour. She also maintained that the Yelahanka land, which was not included in the MoU, and shares in Saraswati Cement belonged to Sharmila. The statement was reportedly notarised by a lawyer before its release.
The issue has drawn renewed attention after Sharmila reportedly planned to hold her daughter Anjali’s wedding at the Yelahanka Palace. Jagan is said to have objected to the event being held there, citing security concerns and describing the premises as his residence. In her earlier statement, Vijayamma asserted that the family assets had not been formally divided after Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s death and that his intention was to distribute them equally among his four grandchildren. She alleged that Sharmila had received less than her rightful share and expressed hope that Jagan would eventually treat his nephew and niece fairly. These are claims made in Vijayamma’s statement; the ownership dispute and the parties’ respective positions should be distinguished from any legally established findings.
