Former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni has encouraged Gen Z and Gen Alpha to adopt healthier lifestyles by making physical activity and sports a regular part of their daily routines. Speaking at an event in Bengaluru alongside renowned writer Javed Akhtar, Dhoni stressed that people should take care of their fitness before health problems arise. He observed that modern lifestyles have reduced everyday physical movement, with many people travelling by car, spending long hours sitting at work and returning home without getting enough exercise. According to Dhoni, regularly playing a sport can help young people stay active and develop healthier habits in an increasingly digital world.
Dhoni also highlighted concerns about sedentary routines and unhealthy eating habits, including the frequent consumption of fried foods, sugary snacks and fast food. He cautioned that the effects of these habits may not become apparent immediately but can contribute to health problems later in life. He therefore encouraged young people to step away from their screens and spend more time engaging in outdoor activities and sports. During the same event, Javed Akhtar shared a positive view of the younger generation, describing Gen Z as more mature and progressive in several respects than older generations. He noted that young people often demonstrate positive attitudes and evolving values, adding that older generations should remain open to learning from their perspectives.
