Passengers purchasing reserved railway tickets at booking counters may soon be able to opt for travel insurance, extending the facility beyond online bookings. According to the information provided, the new arrangement is scheduled to begin on October 27, following instructions issued by the Railway Board to zonal railways. The reported premium is 45 paise, making the insurance a low-cost option for eligible passengers. However, the facility is not compulsory, and passengers can choose whether to purchase the cover when booking their tickets.
The reported coverage includes up to ₹10 lakh in the event of accidental death or permanent total disability, up to ₹7.5 lakh for permanent partial disability, and up to ₹2 lakh towards hospital treatment. The facility is stated to apply to reserved counter tickets. Passengers should check the official Indian Railways announcement and the insurer’s policy terms for confirmation of the start date, eligibility, exclusions, claim procedures and exact coverage before opting in.
