Speculation about Tamil cinema star Dhanush’s possible entry into politics has gained attention in Tamil Nadu. The discussion intensified after he reportedly met representatives of the women’s wing of his fan association at a private engineering college in Sholinganallur, near Chennai, on October 25. Media reports said that more than 3,000 women representatives and fans from different parts of Tamil Nadu attended the gathering. The meeting reportedly focused on interacting directly with fans and hearing their views.
Another development attracting attention is the reported change in the name of his fan association from Dhanush Narpani Mandram to Dhanush Narpani Iyakkam. The Tamil word “Iyakkam” can mean a movement or organisation. Reports suggest the change is associated with expanding welfare activities and improving the organisation of the fan network. Speculation has also been fuelled by reports about Dhanush’s visit to Delhi, although the purpose of that trip has not been officially confirmed. Some fans reportedly want him to enter politics and contest the 2031 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Meanwhile, reports say Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) spokesperson M. Satyakumar welcomed the possibility of Dhanush entering politics, while stressing that building and sustaining a political organisation requires more than simply launching a party. For now, Dhanush has neither announced a political party nor confirmed plans to contest an election.
