India’s winning run in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup continued as Harmanpreet Kaur’s side defeated Bangladesh by 40 runs in the first semifinal on Thursday to reach the final for the sixth consecutive time. On a challenging pitch, opener Shafali Verma produced a brilliant knock of 64 off 40 balls, smashing seven fours and three sixes. India posted 149/6 in 20 overs, with Harmanpreet Kaur unbeaten on 24, while Richa Ghosh and Pratika Rawal contributed 21 and 20 respectively.
Chasing 150, Bangladesh struggled against India’s spin attack and managed only 109/7 in 20 overs. Veteran spinner Deepti Sharma was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets for 26 runs. Shorna Akter remained unbeaten on 22, while Dilara Akter scored 21. India lost Smriti Mandhana for just two early on, but Shafali counter-attacked effectively to give the team a competitive total. Shafali was named Player of the Match.
