Good News for Asian Games Medalists from BFI

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has announced a key qualification pathway for Indian boxers ahead of the 2026 Asian Games and the 2027 World Boxing Championships. Indian boxers who win medals at the Asian Games will receive direct entry to the 2027 World Championships in the same weight category. The 2027 World Championships will serve as the first qualifying event for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. BFI has introduced a four-stage qualification system with the aim of sending as many Indian boxers as possible to the tournament.

The Asian Games medal winner will get the main entry in the corresponding weight category, while the gold medallist from the 10th Elite National Championships in the same category will be considered for the reserve entry. If India does not win a medal in a particular weight category at the Asian Games, the winner of the 10th Elite Nationals will receive the main entry. The same process will apply to Olympic weight categories not contested at the Asian Games. Boxers who reach the quota bout stage at the World Championships but fail to secure an Olympic quota will get direct entry to the Asian qualifiers. The remaining spots will be filled through ranking-based selection trials, with eligibility for the national camp required to participate. The same pathway will be followed for the two 2028 World Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in Italy and Hungary.
