Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has once again become the target of social media trolling following his congratulatory message to the national cricket team. Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by three wickets in the final of the Tri-Nation ODI Series at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday. Congratulating the team on the victory, Sharif praised the players, coaching staff and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in a social media post. However, his message triggered mixed reactions online.
Several users questioned the Prime Minister’s enthusiastic response and sarcastically remarked that the victory was only in a tri-nation series and did not need to be celebrated as a historic achievement. Others questioned whether he would issue such elaborate congratulatory messages for every minor win. Sharif had also faced criticism two days earlier after celebrating Pakistan’s victory over India in the Hong Kong Sixes tournament. As a result, his latest congratulatory post became a bigger talking point on social media than the team’s victory itself.
