Polling across 92 urban local bodies in Andhra Pradesh concluded peacefully, barring a few isolated incidents, Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta said. He noted that voters turned out in large numbers and exercised their democratic right freely. According to the DGP, elaborate security arrangements, continuous monitoring, the use of advanced technology and coordination among various departments ensured the smooth conduct of polling. He personally monitored the polling process and security arrangements from the Command Control Centre at the Police Headquarters, reviewing developments and issuing instructions to senior officers and field personnel.
The DGP said information had been received about 41 election-related incidents across 20 districts, including Kadapa, Kurnool and Anantapur. The Integrated Command Control Centre is continuously examining all the complaints, he added. District police officials have been directed to verify the facts surrounding each incident, identify those responsible and initiate strict legal action. Video surveillance, drones, body-worn cameras and the ‘Samarth’ app were extensively used to monitor the polling process. Gupta warned that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt polling or disturb law and order.
