Scientists have captured rare 4K footage of the unusual barreleye fish, a deep-sea creature known for its transparent head and distinctive eyes. The remarkable footage was recorded during an expedition by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), bringing attention to one of the ocean’s most fascinating marine species. Researchers spotted the fish at a depth of around 1,970 feet in the Pacific Ocean.
The barreleye fish is particularly known for its transparent, fluid-filled head and round, green eyes. These unusual eyes help it detect potential prey in the extremely dark conditions of the deep sea. The latest footage offers researchers a closer look at the creature’s unique features and provides a rare glimpse into the mysterious life of marine species living far below the ocean’s surface.
