Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reviewed the Electricity Department’s preparedness to deal with the impact of Cyclone Murasu. During the meeting, officials briefed him that the cyclone could affect power infrastructure across several districts, with an estimated 6,000 to more than 8,000 electricity poles likely to be damaged, potentially disrupting power supply on a large scale. The Chief Minister directed officials to set a target of restoring electricity within 48 hours in areas where the power network is damaged.
Chandrababu Naidu instructed the department to mobilise the required personnel, machinery and equipment in advance. Taking lessons from the challenges posed by Cyclone Arnab, he called for more effective relief and restoration measures. He also directed officials to arrange additional teams and equipment from Telangana and Tamil Nadu. Electricity Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar informed the meeting that 500 personnel had already arrived from Telangana, while Tamil Nadu had also agreed to send the required workforce and equipment. With the cyclone impact expected to begin from tomorrow, the Chief Minister ordered officials to issue updates on its impact every four to six hours. Electricity Department Special Chief Secretary Vijayanand, CMDs of power distribution companies and other senior officials attended the review.
