Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would never become the Prime Minister of India, remarking that his ambition could only be fulfilled in a mock parliament. Shah made these comments while addressing a gathering in Chandigarh on Sunday after inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for development projects worth Rs. 258 crore. Referring to the 1984 anti-Sikh violence, he criticised Rahul Gandhi for organising the ‘Chalo Delhi’ programme on November 1, a date associated with the violence. Shah accused opposition parties of spreading misinformation, promoting disorder and disrupting parliamentary proceedings. He also alleged that the Congress had turned to the idea of a mock parliament because Sonia Gandhi’s ambition of seeing her son become Prime Minister had not materialised.
Shah also criticised INDIA bloc leaders for not accepting Delhi traders’ request to postpone the ‘Chalo Delhi’ programme until after Diwali. He commented that the decision would have an impact on the opposition in the upcoming elections. Union Minister J.P. Nadda described the INDIA bloc’s rally as a “foolish drama”. Meanwhile, BJP president Nitin Nabin accused the Congress of targeting constitutional institutions out of frustration over electoral defeats. The BJP organised protest rallies across the country under the slogan ‘Save Democracy, Drive Out Anarchy’. Nabin led a rally in Rohtak, Haryana. The party also staged a protest in Hari Nagar, West Delhi, demanding an apology from the Congress and Rahul Gandhi over the 1984 anti-Sikh violence.
