With the US midterm elections approaching, President Donald Trump's administration has announced a major financial assistance package for the agricultural sector. The government plans to provide $15 billion (approximately Rs. 1.25 lakh crore) in aid over the coming weeks to support farmers struggling with rising diesel and fertiliser prices. Of the total amount, $8 billion will be allocated for special payments to farmers affected by higher fuel costs. The package is aimed at easing the financial burden on the agricultural community amid rising input expenses.
The assistance will also include guaranteed loans for livestock producers and fishermen, along with funding for fertiliser manufacturing projects and farm conservation programmes. However, some experts and farmers believe the temporary support will not fully offset the rising cost of production and the burden of tariffs. They have also expressed concerns that the package may not offer a long-term solution to the challenges facing the agricultural sector.
