A remarkable achievement was recorded in Gelephu, Bhutan, on Sunday, as nearly 200,000 volunteers from across the country and abroad came together to build 108 Buddhist stupas in a single day. The initiative is part of the Mindfulness City project, envisioned by Bhutan's King Jigme Wangchuck. The proposed city has been designed by Danish architects.
Gelephu, located near the Indian border, has a population of just around 10,000. Each of the newly constructed Buddhist stupas stands 50 feet tall, with a distance of 354 feet maintained between them. The project involved months of planning and preparations before volunteers joined hands to complete the construction of all 108 stupas in a single day, marking a significant milestone.
