England created history at the FIFA World Cup 2026 by defeating France 6-4 in a thrilling third-place play-off match to secure the bronze medal. The victory marked England’s best performance on the global stage in nearly six decades since their 1966 World Cup triumph. The team ended their campaign on a high note with a dominant display against a strong French side.
The match at Hard Rock Stadium, Florida, saw England take control from the beginning. Declan Rice opened the scoring in the third minute, followed by Ezri Konsa’s goal in the 18th minute. Bukayo Saka scored twice in the first half, in the 37th and 45th minutes, helping England establish a commanding 4-0 lead before halftime.
