Detonators Found Near Army Firing Range in Bollaram

The discovery of electrical detonators near the firing range of the Madras Regiment in Bollaram has caused concern, even as the investigation into the recent theft of weapons from the Army premises continues. Army personnel alerted the police after spotting a plastic bucket near the wall behind the firing range. Officials found eight bundles containing a total of 160 electrical detonators. The detonators were secured following instructions from the Malkajgiri Bomb Disposal Team. Their estimated value is around Rs. 32,000. Police are investigating who brought and abandoned them at the location.

The recovery comes just days after unidentified persons reportedly broke open the lock of an Army weapons storage room and fled with 12 weapons and ammunition. The theft included four AK-47 rifles, six pistols and one INSAS rifle, according to information available in the case. Following a complaint from Army officials, Bollaram police registered a case on Monday. As the matter concerns defence installations and security, authorities are reportedly maintaining confidentiality regarding several details. The police are now examining whether the discovery of the detonators has any connection with the ongoing weapons theft investigation.
