Drinking Salt Water? Here’s What Doctors Say...

Doctors warn that consuming too much salt can be harmful to health. While some people drink water mixed with Himalayan pink salt or rock salt in the morning, the sodium and trace minerals in these salts may play a role in maintaining fluid balance. However, there is limited evidence to show that healthy individuals need to drink salt water regularly. It should not be considered a proven solution for improving digestion, relieving constipation or boosting daily energy.

Electrolyte requirements may increase after intense exercise or excessive sweating, but plain water and a balanced diet are sufficient for most daily needs. Gargling with warm salt water may provide temporary relief from a sore throat, but drinking salt water is not suitable for everyone. People with high blood pressure, heart disease or kidney problems should consult a healthcare professional before consuming it regularly, as excess sodium may worsen certain health conditions.
