In a heartbreaking final at the Badminton Asia Championships, Indian young shuttler Ayush Shetty narrowly missed out on a historic gold medal and settled for silver after an impressive run. Entering the tournament with modest expectations, Ayush stunned top-ranked opponents on his way to the final.
In the summit clash, Ayush lost to China’s second seed Shi Yuqi in straight games 8–21, 10–21 in a 42-minute contest. The world No. 2 displayed complete dominance, not giving Ayush many opportunities to settle into the match. Despite the defeat, Ayush’s campaign was remarkable, marked by victories over top-ranked players including world No. 1 Kunlavut Vitidsarn, world No. 4, and world No. 7 on his way to the final.
India’s wait for a men’s singles gold continues at the Asian level, extending back 61 years since Dinesh Khanna’s historic win in 1965. Ayush’s silver medal performance has reignited hopes for the future, with many praising his fearless and breakthrough run in the tournament.
