Asian Games 2026: Quimcy Dsouza One Win Away From India’s First Teqball Medal

Teqball may still be a relatively new sport for Indian sports fans, but Quimcy Joaquim Dsouza is putting the country in the spotlight at the 2026 Asian Games. The 24-year-old Mumbai-born athlete has reached the women’s singles semi-finals after two impressive victories in the group stage. She defeated Japan’s Yuina Sakamoto 2-1 after a comeback and then beat Cambodia’s Koemyean Dy 2-0. A victory in Saturday’s semi-final against Indonesia’s Ima Sumaya would guarantee India its first-ever Asian Games medal in teqball.

Teqball combines football skills with a curved table, with players using their feet, knees, thighs, chest and head instead of their hands. Dsouza began her sporting journey as a footballer and represented Maharashtra at the Under-19 level before switching to teqball in 2022. She has won multiple national titles and is currently ranked 24th in the world in women’s singles, according to the International Teqball Federation. She is also competing in mixed doubles alongside Mohamed Anas Imran Beg.
