The Karnataka government has stepped forward to assist Andhra Pradesh in restoring electricity infrastructure damaged by Cyclone Arnab. Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the Andhra Pradesh government had sought manpower and equipment to carry out electrical repairs and restore essential infrastructure. He added that he had spoken to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu over the phone and assured him of Karnataka’s full support. Under the leadership of Energy Minister KJ George, Karnataka is sending 500 linemen, 15 Palfinger trucks equipped with cranes and earth augers, and 25 tractor-mounted drilling machines to Andhra Pradesh.
The support teams left Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka for Andhra Pradesh on Monday afternoon. Each team of ten linemen will be led by a junior engineer and an assistant engineer, while an executive engineer will coordinate the operations of all teams. Shivakumar said the Karnataka government would bear the travel and other expenses of the personnel. He reiterated that Karnataka remains committed to prioritising neighbouring states and extending assistance whenever natural disasters occur.
