Accommodation Woes for Indian Athletes in Nagoya

The Indian contingent arriving in Nagoya, Japan, for the Asian Games has faced accommodation and check in difficulties at the outset. Indian gymnast Pranati Nayak and her coach Ashok Mishra were reportedly assigned the same room aboard the cruise ship being used to accommodate athletes and officials. The arrangement led to objections from the duo, following which Indian officials contacted the local organisers. The Indian Olympic Association stepped in, and separate accommodation was arranged for Nayak and Mishra after midnight.

The problems did not end there for Mishra. When he went to collect the keys to his separate room, hotel staff reportedly could not find his booking because the letter ‘I’ was missing from his name in the official records. His accreditation and booking details had to be verified again, a process that took around 45 minutes. He eventually received the room keys after 2 a.m. Nayak later confirmed that there had been confusion over the accommodation. Other members of the Indian contingent have also reportedly faced difficulties involving room allocation, check-in, transport and other logistical arrangements in Nagoya.
