Discontent is emerging among YSRCP candidates following the party’s poor performance in the municipal elections, with some blaming their defeat on the conduct of party leaders. Chintapalli Nageswara Rao, who contested for the municipal chairperson post in Ramachandrapuram and lost, expressed his anguish on social media on Wednesday. He alleged that former MP Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose and his son, Surya Prakasha Rao, the YSRCP in-charge for the Ramachandrapuram constituency, were responsible for his defeat. Nageswara Rao claimed that he was pressured into contesting despite his reluctance, while the leaders neither participated in his campaign nor extended financial support. He further alleged that they verbally abused him when he sought their help. Saying that he had spent nearly Rs. 1 crore after trusting them, he said he had to campaign door to door on his own and broke down while recounting his experience.
Warns Other Candidates Against Trusting Party Leaders
Nageswara Rao urged the candidates contesting in the ongoing ZPTC and MPTC elections to learn from his experience. He cautioned them against relying on party leaders and spending their own money, warning that they could end up being deceived. Meanwhile, the report states that some leaders who were reluctant to contest the local body elections on behalf of the YSRCP entered the fray following pressure from party chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. However, they allegedly received little financial or campaign support from the party, with some leaders staying away from campaigning altogether. In Amalapuram, a few such candidates reportedly secured fewer than 50 votes. In Ramachandrapuram, Sesharao, who won the municipal chairperson post as a candidate of the ruling alliance, was previously associated with the YSRCP. He reportedly joined the TDP after alleging that the then party leaders had failed to honour their promise of giving the chairperson post to his wife. He went on to win the latest election.
