The Democratic Party has secured a major victory in the 2026 US midterm elections, winning control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, according to election projections. The results mark a significant setback for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. With Democrats gaining control of both chambers of Congress, the political balance in Washington is set to change during the remaining two years of Trump’s term.
The elections have also produced historic milestones. In Michigan, Democrat Abdul El-Sayed has been projected to win the Senate race, making him the first Muslim to enter the US Senate. In Georgia, Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms has won the governor’s race, becoming the state’s first Black woman governor. These victories have drawn national attention, adding to the significance of the Democratic gains.
