YSRCP leader and former minister Ambati Rambabu has acknowledged that his party suffered a crushing defeat in the recent municipal elections in Andhra Pradesh. While alleging that the ruling alliance resorted to irregularities during the polls, he admitted that the party’s defeat was a reality. Responding to a question from reporters about allegations of electoral malpractice during the YSRCP’s previous tenure, Rambabu said that this was why the party was facing the present situation. He also remarked that similar results could be repeated in any future elections in the state. He made these comments while speaking to the media after appearing before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Hyderabad on Wednesday in connection with a liquor transportation case.
Speaking about the ED inquiry, Rambabu said he had recommended liquor transportation sub-contracts for two YSRCP leaders from his constituency, Subba Reddy and Purushotham. He stated that he had discussed the matter with Vasudeva Reddy and provided the ED officials with all the relevant details. According to Rambabu, the people he recommended secured the contracts and recorded a turnover of around ₹16 crore to ₹18 crore over five years. He said the authorities were investigating allegations of a scam in connection with the contracts and that he had been questioned as part of the probe. He also disclosed that the officials had taken his Aadhaar and PAN cards during the inquiry.
